Hoax! Viral Video of the Police Brutalising Citizens NOT related to Elections 2020

A video of a group of policemen brutalising some civilians is being circulated around on various social media platforms with the narrative that the officers of the Ghana Police Service have been deployed to intimidate electorates in a stronghold constituency of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The video which has gone viral bore the caption “See how Voltarians are being treated in the border towns near Togo because of the coming presidential elections. Please share all over let it go viral”.

Fact-check Ghana has verified the video and traced the source of the video and concludes the claim is false.

Explanation: Tracing the available source of the video online, Fact-check Ghana discovered that the video was first published on YouTube on June 6, 2013 by the account “Classic Ghana” with the caption “Ghana Police brutalize suspected land guards in Cantonments, Accra.”

The video is therefore not related to the December 7 general elections and must be disregarded.
