Alleged claim by Martin Amidu on NDC Fante, Ewe caucus false

Allegations are making rounds on social media suggesting that former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has said a supposed Fante caucus in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the Ahwoi is aiming at erasing the Ewe caucus led by Former President Jerry Rawlings. The allegation is contained on what appears to be a news media flyer.

The flyer has been shared by many people including former NDC Deputy Secretary, Samuel Koku Anyidoho who posted it on X on March 27 and April 1, 2024. The Facebook pages NPP Bosomtwi Constituency and Patriot TV have also posted the same flyer. On TikTok, it has been posted by one Nana123.

The flyer has garnered many views and engagement on the social media platforms. For instance, before publishing this report, Koku Anyidoho’s March 27 post has recorded 3.6K views, 7 reposts, and 41 likes.

Fact-Check Ghana has verified the claim circulating on X, Facebook, and TikTok platforms and presents the details below.

Explanation:

The team’s check on the internet revealed that no major credible media outlet had carried a story or any report similar to the claims made on the flyer.

While the handles that posted the flyer did not indicate exactly where the former special prosecutor made the claim Ahwoi is leading the Fante caucus in the NDC to erase the Rawlings-led Ewe caucus, the flyers bore the logo and social media handles of myxyzonline, suggesting it was created by the media outlet. However, when Fact-Check Ghana checked on the social media platforms of the news media, there were no traces of the flyer.

The team further contacted the head of XYZ Online and Webmaster, Emmanuel Nettey, who said it was fake and that the station did not create the flyer.

From the above, the flyer is fabricated content, and there’s no evidence to support the allegations that Martin Amidu had said that Ahwoi-led Fante caucus is planning to erase Rawlings-led Ewe cause from the NDC.
