Manasseh Azure Awuni is a 2024 Nieman Journalism Fellow and founding Editor-in-Chief of The Fourth Estate, a non-profit, public-interest journalism project by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA).
Before joining the MFWA, Manasseh had about a decade of experience in journalism, working as a freelancer and with media houses. Between November 2012 and June 2019, he worked at Joy FM and JoyNews Television at the Multimedia Group.
He founded and headed the investigative desk and produced some of the most groundbreaking and impactful investigative stories in Ghana. He has also collaborated with some international media outlets, including the CNN to uncover a Russian troll factory in Ghana and VG, a Norwegian media entity to investigate Ghana’s shady procurement of Covid-19 vaccines. In 2021, he was adjudged the Integrity Personality of the Year for his role and impact in the fight against corruption. Manasseh was adjudged Ghana’s overall best journalist for 2011 by the Ghana Journalists Association, just a year after leaving journalism school.
In 2018 and 2020, Manasseh was crowned the Overall Best Journalist at the West Africa Media Excellence Awards. He has won over a dozen other competitive journalism awards to his credit.
